LACROSSE

The Margin Of Victory component in the power rankings came up several times during the MIAA Lacrosse Committee meeting Thursday morning. Andover athletic director Wayne Puglisi said the coaches are in favor of dropping the current MOV from 10 goals to six and stressed the importance of making sure the Tournament Management Committee was aware of the proposal.

In other news, MIAA Lacrosse Tournament Director Dan Brothers said he is in the process of securing postseason venues for the tournament though he cautioned this year could present issues as Father’s Day weekend (June 15-17) falls on the same dates as the state championships. Brothers said he has reached out to past tourney venues Boston University, Harvard, Worcester State and Bentley to gauge their interest and availability.

Notre Dame’s Meredith McGinnis brought up the possibility of cutting down the maximum number of girls games in a season from 20 to 18 if the cutoff date is moved from the traditional Memorial Day Monday date. She pointed to scheduling concerns if those extra days are no longer available to play as well as a growing shortage of officials.

SOCCER

The second annual A Shot For Life Courage Cup will be held at the Union Point Sports Complex in Weymouth on Sunday, Jan. 21 from 2-6 p.m.. A soccer event featuring the top players in the state, the girls division will play from 2:10-4 p.m., with the boys following at approximately 4:10 p.m.
