Nick Dragisich tapped to serve on Lake Elmo City Council
Nick Dragisich has been selected to fill the open position on the Lake Elmo City Council.
Council members voted Tuesday to have Dragisich, 70, fill the position that was left open in November when council member Lisa McGinn resigned. McGinn resigned in protest after the mayor and two other council members voted not to renew then-city administrator Kristina Handt’s contract.

Dragisich, who moved to Lake Elmo four years ago, has more than 40 years of experience in local government.
“I thought that I had something to offer,” he said. “I’m retired, and I have time on my hands, and I have a lot of experience in local government to help them solve problems.”
Dragisich retired in May as managing director at Baker Tilly, where he previously served as firm director. Prior to that, he served as assistant city manager in Spokane, Wash. He also has been city administrator and city engineer in Virginia, Minn., and is a former mayor of Chisholm, Minn.
Dragisich holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota.
He and his wife, Yvonne, have three children and three grandchildren.
Dragisich was one of four people who applied for the open council position, Mayor Charles Cadenhead said. “All of the candidates were well spoken and presented well, and we appreciate their willingness to serve the community of Lake Elmo,” he said.
Dragisich, who was selected by a unanimous vote, “brought up some very good points, and we felt like his experience was advantageous for the city of Lake Elmo and its residents,” Cadenhead said.
Dragisich’s current term will expire on Dec. 31.
There will be a special election in November to select someone to complete the two years remaining on the term for the seat, Cadenhead said.
