BOYS BASKETBALL

Sophomore Thomas Edwards paced all scorers with 32 points and added eight rebounds, guiding Avon to a 74-48 victory over Atlantis Charter in the Mayflower Athletic Conference.

In the Hockomock League, sophomore Dray Thielker (15 points) drained a triple as time expired to lift Taunton over Mansfield 70-67. Troy Santos scored 33 points for the Tigers. … Jeremiah Predin collected 23 points and nine boards as Canton defeated Milford 77-71. … Dante Monestime scored 20 points as Attleboro beat Oliver Ames, 66-51. … Anthony Alessi scored 16 points as Stoughton defeated North Attleboro, 54-43.

Dom White scored 16 and Terran Williams chipped in with 15 as Rockland defeated nonleague opponent Silver Lake 50-45. … Max Finny and Wyatt Smiley combined for 28 points as Old Colony (7-0) defeated Sturgis West, 67-32. … Ryan McDonald scored 22 points as Walpole defeated Bishop Feehan, 67-60.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

In nonleague action, senior captain Breana Nansamba netted 21 points as Mystic Valley took down Chelsea 38-22. … Senior guard Reese Bartlett notched a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while junior guard Brenna Woodbury added 17 points, six assists and five steals as Bridgewater-Raynham (6-1) topped North Quincy 70-46. … Senior Lilly Blow recorded a double-double (14 points, 15 rebounds), as Fontbonne (6-2) defeated Dracut 60-40. … Kate McBride scored 13 points as Hingham rolled to a 53-30 win over Rockland.

In the Northeastern Conference, Peabody was led by Ally Bettencourt with 12 points and nine steals while Abby Bettencourt had 11 points and nine steals as the Tanners rolled to a 53-21 victory over Marblehead. … Peyton DiBiasio scored 23 points as Saugus (4-2) defeated Gloucester, 41-32.

Muji Vader had a double double with 23 points and 10 rebounds as Minuteman (5-2) defeated Nashoba Tech 48-41 in the Commonwealth Athletic Conference.

In the Mayflower Athletic Conference, Hanelie Cadet and Kylie Mallett each scored 19 as Avon rolled to a 56-17 win over Atlantis Charter.

Liza Minogue led the way with 18 followed by Julia Ray and Abi Kinyua with 10 apiece as Covenant Christian defeated Penguin Hall, 51-36.

BOYS HOCKEY

In a nonleague showdown, Connor Fryberger registered a hat trick to propel Catholic Memorial during an 8-3 victory over Pope Francis.

Ryan Davis scored three times as Nantucket (6-1) defeated St. John Paul 7-1 in the Cape and Islands.

VOLLEYBALL

Boston Herald girls volleyball All-Scholastic Quinn Anderson of Westborough was named the 2023-24 Gatorade Massachusetts Volleyball Player of the Year. Anderson is the third Gatorade Massachusetts Volleyball Player of the Year to be chosen from Westborough High School.

The 6-foot senior outside hitter led the Rangers to a 21-1 record and their second consecutive Division 2 state championship this past season. Anderson recorded 430 kills, averaging 6.2 per set, to go with 191 digs, 63 aces and 18 blocks. The 2022-23 Massachusetts Volleyball Gatorade Player of the Year, Anderson concluded her prep career with a 70-2 record in a Westborough uniform and is only the third player ever to earn four Massachusetts Volleyball Coaches Association All-State selections.

Anderson has maintained a 4.38 weighted GPA in the classroom. She has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball on scholarship at Stony Brook University this fall.
