WRESTLING

Shawsheen captured the 54th annual Sanford (Maine) Invitational, knocking off three-time defending champion Danbury (Conn.) in the process.

Boston Herald All-Scholastics Sidney Tildsley won the 138-pound title and his brother James followed suit at 144. Sidney was voted the tournament Outstanding Wrestler, while James won the award for most pins in the least time.

Freshman Aiden Pimental won his first title at Shawsheen, winning all three matches in the 126-pound weight class. Other Rams to place included Jayden Perez (third at 106), Caleb Caceres (third at 132) and Jake Metcalf (third at 175).

Wayland went 2-1 at the Gloucester Quads, giving head coach Sean Chase his 300th win in the process. The Warriors defeated Pentucket (44-24) and North Middlesex (55-21), while falling to Gloucester (48-34). Jaden Kaufman (150), Cole Chase (157), Cole Duffy (165) and Ronan Flatley (113) were undefeated on the day for Wayland.

Hingham swept Somerset Berkley (50- 21), Oliver Ames (63-9) and Braintree (50-18). Mia Dineen (106), Johnny Morris (120), JD Lucas (132), Ned Buckley (144), Aidan Chan (157), Jakub Wozny (165), Tucker Burke (175), and Tyler Grady (215) all went 3-0 on the day for the Harbormen.

 

BOYS HOCKEY

In a Catholic Conference matchup, Luke Gerardi finished with four goals to lead St. John’s (S) past Catholic Memorial, 7-4.

Jack O’Connor made 55 saves as Brookline and Wellesley skated to a 1-1 tie in the Bay State Conference. … Will Saratella recorded a hat trick as Needham doubled up on Braintree, 6-3. … Noah Albright scored the game-winner as Framingham edged Walpole 3-2 in overtime.

Boston Latin defeated Newton South 4-1 in a Dual County League matchup, giving head coach Frank Woods his 200th career win.

Matthew Smith recorded a shutout as St. Mary’s defeated Bishop Feehan 3-0 in the Catholic Central League.

In the Cape Ann League, Chris Sacco made 38 saves while Ben Merrill and Johnny Mireault each collected two tallies and two assists as Masconomet (7-2) edged Gloucester 5-4.

Luke Tropeano tallied four goals as Whitman-Hanson cruised to a 9-2 nonleague victory over Bridgewater-Raynham.

GIRLS HOCKEY

In Middlesex League action, Sonia Carnes scored a pair of goals while Cate Sheehan added a goal and an assist to lead Winchester to a 5-1 victory over Arlington.

Bella Freitas had a pair of goals, while Gianna Tringale stopped all 10 shots for the shutout as St. Mary’s (6-0-1) defeated Arlington Catholic 5-0 in the Catholic Central League.

Maeve Murray scored twice and Ava Enright added the other goal as Boston Latin (7-2-1)n edged Waltham 3-2 in an MVC/DCL 2 matchup.

Jill Peabody scored both goals as Needham edged Braintree 2-1 in the Bay State Conference. … Molly Murphy scored twice and Maggie Mullen added the other as Milton blanked Weymouth 3-0.

Georgia Murray, Caitlin Kelley and Chloe Bryda scored, while Aviva Olitsky had 26 saves as Bishop Fenwick defeated Sandwich 3-1 in a nonleague contest.

Jen Birolini and Hannah D’Angelo each scored twice as Pembroke defeated Hanover, 4-2.

Nora Swaim scored twice as Rivers (4-3-1) defeated Brooks 3-1 in the ISL.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

In a South Coast Conference contest, Addison Taylor recorded 18 points and five assists while CC Levrault added 14 points and nine steals to pace Apponequet (7-2) to a 74-13 victory over West Bridgewater.

Naziiah Herisse scored 28 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had seven steals as New Heights defeated Minuteman 56-38 in a nonleague contest.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Javi Lopez scored 20 points and teammate Jordan Marion added 13 as Central Catholic defeated Tewksbury 62-37 in the Merrimack Valley Conference.

Kayvaun Mulready scored 34 points to lead Worcester Academy to an 88-82 win over MacDuffie.

In nonleague play, freshman Krem Amparo put in 20 points as Latin Academy took down Excel Academy 74-62.
