Patriots’ Mac Jones inactive as emergency third QB in season finale vs. Jets

FOXBORO — Quarterback Mac Jones is officially inactive in what could be his last game in a Patriots uniform.

Jones will dress but serve as the team’s emergency third QB with Bailey Zappe and Nathan Rourke active. Offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien said earlier in the week that Zappe would start.

Rourke only joined the Patriots ahead of Week 16 when he was claimed off waivers from the Jaguars.

— Jones had been benched in four separate games before Zappe took over as the team’s starter in Week 13. Jones has not appeared in a game that Zappe has started.

— The Patriots will have just two active running backs in Ezekiel Elliott and Kevin Harris.

— Kayshon Boutte, DeMario Douglas, DeVante Parker and Jalen Reagor will dress at wide receiver with Thornton (ankle) out.

— Pettway was signed to the 53-man roster on Saturday but will not play. Matt Sokol was elevated off of the practice squad to suit up alongside Pharaoh Brown and Mike Gesicki.

— The Patriots also elevated offensive tackle Andrew Stueber off of the practice squad to serve as offensive tackle depth behind Vederian Lowe and Mike Onwenu. David Andrews, Jake Andrews, James Ferentz, Atonio Mafi and Sidy Sow are also active along the offensive line.

— Roberts has been a regular healthy scratch this season. Bledsoe was only recently signed off the practice squad.

— Safety Jabrill Peppers will make his return after missing two weeks with a hamstring injury.
