ROUNDUP

BOYS HOCKEY

Chase Field netted three goals to help Barnstable (3-3-2) come back and salvage a 3-3 tie with Martha’s Vineyard in a Cape and Islands League contest.

Jack Corey (three goals), Shaun Teehan (two goals) and Brendan Teehan (goal) got on the scoresheet as Oliver Ames (3-2-1) rolled to a 6-2 Hockomock League win over Taunton.

Kyle O’Leary, Teddy MacAusland, Kris Soja and Jack Hartwell scored for Nobles in a 4-2 Independent School League victory over St. Sebastian’s.

In the Middlesex League, Liam Guilderson scored twice as Belmont defeated Winchester 3-1.

Luke Gerardi, Chase Warsofsky and Brady Chenevert struck for two goals each as St. John’s (Shrewsbury) (7-1) edged Malden Catholic 6-5 in a Catholic Conference clash.

Jake Jarrell sniped the game’s lone tally in the final minute of regulation, as Pope Francis defeated nonleague foe Arlington in a 1-0 thriller.

GIRLS HOCKEY

In the Cape and Islands League, Casey Roth compiled two goals and two assists as Falmouth edged Sandwich 6-4.

Calli Pineau netted a hat trick with an assist as Norwell/Scituate/Abington blanked Norwell 4-0 in nonleague action. … Sophia Ginsburg and Riley Porter found the net for Boston Latin (6-2-1) in a pivotal 2-1 win over Notre Dame (Hingham). … Nayeli Thayer and Maggie Mullen scored for Milton (5-3-0) in a 2-1 win over Pope Francis. … Julie Murphy scored twice as Archbishop Williams blanked Weymouth, 4-0. … Talia Martucci potted three goals and dished an assist as Winthrop (4-2) won 5-0 over Medford/Malden. … Gabi Locke hit the back of the net twice for HPNA (4-3) in a 2-0 shutout of Bishop Fenwick.

Tatum Friedholm scored a power play goal in the third period to lift Lincoln-Sudbury to a 2-1 Dual County League victory over Waltham.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Samuel Hughes had 27 points as Dexter Southfield defeated Brooks 67-58 in NEPSAC action.

In nonleague play, sophomore Anthony Alessi put in 19 points and senior Eli Connor added 14 as Stoughton defeated Nauset 72-61. … Sophomore Dray Thielker led the way with 22 points and five rebounds while Troy Santos collected 20 points, five assists and five steals as Taunton rolled to an 88-54 victory over New Bedford.  … Christian Dalton (16 points) and Raymond Miller (11 points) took care of most of the scoring for New Heights in a 57-44 win over Cardinal Spellman. … Cole Rodgers scored 27 points and hauled in three rebounds as Sandwich defeated Mashpee 60-47.

Matt Youngquist dropped 26 points, while Zach Iwanski posted 13 points as Middleboro (4-0) bested Carver 70-59 in the South Shore League. … Connor Pease (21 points, seven rebounds) Kingston Maxwell (19 points, seven rebounds, seven assists), Tyler Staiti (15 points) and Jake McSharry (11 points, seven rebounds) rose to the occasion for Abington (4-3) in a 74-52 win over Rockland.

Maggie Elie recorded 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists for Rockland (3-5) in a 43-36 win over South Shore League rival Abington. … Maddie Oliver racked up 18 points and seven rebounds, and Reagan Dowd did a little bit of everything with 14 rebounds, seven assists, eight steals and four points as Norwell triumphed 48-29 over Cohasset.

Sadie Gamber and Sasha Makogonov scored 15 points each, while Gaby Campbell finished with 14 points as Hamilton-Wenham (5-2) beat Ipswich 54-37 in Cape Ann League play. … Bella Cannalonga led the way with 13 points, eight assists and five steals as North Reading (3-3) defeated Lynnfield, 56-37. … Senior Ava DiBurro paced the scoring with 12 points, while Amelia Crowe added nine points and eight rebounds to propel Pentucket (5-1) during a 44-18 victory over Essex Tech.

Hannah Thorell led a trio of double-figure scorers with 13 points as Old Rochester (4-2) defeated Dighton-Rehoboth 51-31 in the South Coast Conference.

Ally Johnson tallied 14 points, and Kathleen Murphy chipped in with nine points as Blue Hills (3-1) downed Norfolk Aggie 37-16 in the Mayflower Athletic Conference.

FOOTBALL

Boston Herald All-Scholastic quarterback Henry Hasselbeck of Xaverian was named the Gatorade Massachusetts Football Player of the Year. Hasselbeck is the third Gatorade Massachusetts Football Player of the Year to be chosen from Xaverian Brothers High School.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pound senior passed for 1,349 yards and 19 touchdowns against just two interceptions this past season, completing 64.2 percent of his throws to lead the Hawks (11-2) to the Division 1 state championship. Hasselbeck also rushed for 740 yards on 76 attempts and scored 11 touchdowns.

Hasselbeck maintains an A average in the classroom. He signed a National Letter of Intent to play football on scholarship at UCLA this fall.
