Wild’s Kirill Kaprizov week to week with lower body injury

The Wild’s injury issues have gone from difficult to potentially catastrophic.

Already playing, and surviving, without Mats Zuccarello and Jonas Brodin for the better part of a month, Minnesota went through its morning skate Tuesday without its top goaltender and points leader.

Goalie Filip Gustavsson was placed on injured reserve on Monday, meaning he must miss at least seven days, and on Tuesday morning it was announced Kirill Kaprizov is week to week with an upper body injury.

Kaprizov is second on the team with 13 goals and has a team-high 34 points. He left a 4-2 loss at Winnipeg last Saturday after taking a couple cross checks from Jets defenseman Brenden Dillon to his lower back.

Gustavsson (lower body) was injured in the same game, replaced by Marc-Andre Fleury to start the third period.

The Wild have won 11 of 16 games since John Hynes replaced Dean Evason as head coach on Nov. 28, and have done so despite injuries to Brodin (10 games), Zuccarello (seven) and Jared Spurgeon (seven before returning last week). Adding Kaprizov and Gustavsson is a major blow for a team trying to work its way back into the playoff mix after a 5-10-4 start.

The Wild have lost two straight heading into Tuesday night’s puck drop against Calgary at Xcel Energy Center.
