In the Twin Cities, temperature records date back to the 1870s.

A little more than five inches of snow has fallen so far this winter in the Twin Cities — 14 inches below average.

By this time last year, more than 33 inches had piled up during what was to become the third snowiest winter on record (90.3 inches) in the St. Paul-Minneapolis area.

The 10-foot-tall snowman, with a traffic cone for a nose and small wagon wheels for eyes, weighs between two and five tons, according to Rebecca. (John Autey / Pioneer Press)

A few flurries are expected on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, according to the weather service on Tuesday, with some light snow Friday into this weekend.
