City Limits celebrated its 47th anniversary last month with a fundraiser gala, marking nearly half a century of providing nuanced, in-depth reporting on New York City policy.
What started as a no-frills newsletter for housing organizers in 1976, City Limits today produces award-winning local news coverage, with beats specifically dedicated to homelessness, NYCHA, land use, climate change, labor issues and the city’s immigrant communities. The nonprofit newsroom also runs CLARIFY News, a paid internship program that trains New York City high school students in public service journalism.
The gala, hosted Oct. 26 at Capitale in lower Manhattan, included the induction of four exemplary New Yorkers into the City Limits’ Hall of Fame: United Way of New York City President & CEO Grace Bonilla, Mission Magnified Principal Neill Coleman, Community Service Society President & CEO David R. Jones and WNYC radio host Brian Lehrer. Journalist Tanzina Vega served as emcee for the event.
If you missed the celebration, it’s not too late to support City Limits this year: from now through Dec. 31, NewsMatch will double all donations up to $1,000.
