Sports stars signed up to fight for their country during WWII, and baseball greats were no exception. When this Dec. 1, 1942 photo was taken, five major league ball players stood in front of their training plane at Amherst College in Amherst, where they received civilian pilot training wings in order to become Naval pilots.
