Iceland October 2023: Tesla Model Y scores 6th straight month at #1, Subaru Solterra #4

The Subaru Solterra outsells its twin the Toyota bZ4X in October.

The Icelandic new car market continues on its negative streak in October with sales off -18.5% to 960, leading to a year-to-date tally down -13.9% to 14,797. Tesla (+1073.3%) scores a third consecutive month win with 18.3% share. It however remains #2 year-to-date for now below Toyota, down -11.4% to #3 this month. Kia (-20.6%) falls faster than the market at #2, with Hyundai (-16.3%) and Volkswagen (-14.7%) doing a little better below. Volvo is stable at #6 ahead of a surging Skoda (+48.1%). In contrast Mercedes (-42%), Ford (-36.4%) and Nissan (-20.5%) all sink. Outside the Top 10, Subaru (+244.4%), Land Rover (+35.7%) and Porsche (+75%) ignore the negative market. Among newcomers, Smart is up 10 spots on September to #17 and BYD up 7 to #19.

Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y lodges a 6th consecutive monthly win with a commanding 18% share, that’s almost 4 times the amount of the #2, the Kia Stonic (4.8%). The Model Y holds 14.8% of the market year-to-date vs. 5.7% for the #2, the Dacia Duster. The Hyundai Kona surges to #3 with 3.9% share vs. #18 and 1% year-to-date but the surprise of the month is delivered by the Subaru Solterra up to a record #4 with 3.1% share vs. #32 and 0.8% so far this year. It distances its twin the Toyota bZ4X at #6 with 2.8% share. In between the two we find the Skoda Enyaq at 3% share. The Ford Mustang Mach-E also posts a solid month at #7. The Nissan Leaf is up to #12, the Smart #1 up to #145 and the MG 4 up to #15.
