Patriots’ Matthew Judon, Davon Godchaux reported to camp amid contract issues
FOXBORO — The Patriots had perfect attendance on the first official day of training camp Tuesday, and that included outside linebacker Matthew Judon and defensive tackle Davon Godchaux amid contract disputes.
“Everyone’s here. Happy about that. These guys are ready to rock. That’s a good thing,” Mayo told reporters.

At the same time, it sounds like Mayo believes the Patriots will need to amend Judon and Godchaux’s contracts in order to keep them around and happy. Both veteran defenders are on the last years of their contracts. Judon is set to make just $6.5 million in base salary after the team borrowed from his 2024 salary to give him a raise in 2023. Godchaux signed a two-year contract extension in 2022 and is set to make a $7.15 million base salary.
“Look, the relationship is still good, at least from my perspective. I know their teammates definitely respect them. Those are valuable pieces of this organization,” Mayo said. “They’ve done a lot for us. Hopefully, we can get something done and those guys are here. I want them here. I think Eliot (Wolf) wants them here. The team wants them here. There is a business aspect to everything.”
Mayo said the expectation is that if a player reports that they’re going to practice when asked about the possibility of Judon or Godchaux holding in. He said he would have a better sense of Godchaux and Judon’s willingness to stick around without new contracts on Wednesday when practices begin.
“Look, this is their first day back. So, this is probably a question for tomorrow. At the same time, I would reiterate, we want those guys here,” Mayo said. “We’re going to do everything possible to keep those guys. If it’s good for the organization, hopefully it works out.”
Judon, 31, was a Pro Bowl selection in 2021 and 2022 with the Patriots, but his 2023 season ended prematurely after he tore his biceps in Week 4. Godchaux, 29, is the Patriots’ starting nose tackle. Both players signed with the Patriots in 2021.
