Cape Cod woman charged with murder, accused of killing her ex-boyfriend: ‘It was me’

A 29-year-old Cape Cod woman is accused of killing her ex-boyfriend, according to police who say she fatally stabbed him in the chest.

Juscelene Guedes, of Centerville, has been arrested and charged with murder, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. She allegedly killed her ex-boyfriend, Renato Chaves, who was 33.

“It was me,” Guedes reportedly told police in Hyannis Wednesday evening.

She is in the U.S. illegally, 7News Boston reported.

Barnstable Police at around 7:19 p.m. on Wednesday received a 911 call reporting a vehicle crash in the area of TD Bank, 226 Falmouth Road, Route 28 in Hyannis.

One of the vehicle’s occupants, Chaves, had been stabbed in the chest.

“Ofc. Rogorzenski cut off CHAVES t-shirt and noticed an approximately 1.5 inch stab wound to the middle of CHAVES chest,” the arraignment report reads. “Ofc. Rogorzenski noted the wound was not actively bleeding but began medical treatment. While rendering medical aid, Ofc. Rogorzenski observed a kitchen knife on the passenger side floor of the white Ford Fusion.”

Chaves was transported to Cape Cod Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, a witness at the crash pointed to a woman later identified as Guedes, who was running away from the accident. The witness reportedly shouted at police, “Get her! Get her!”

An officer chased her down, and Guedes was advised of her Miranda Rights in Portuguese. During the interview with police, she identified herself and Chaves as exes. Guedes told police that they had a domestic altercation in her Centerville residence.

“Det Loiselle subsequently asked GUEDES who stabbed CHAVES and GUEDES responded ‘It was me,’ ” the arraignment report reads.

She was then placed under arrest.

Police later responded to Guedes’ residence, where they reportedly noticed red-brown drops consistent with blood in the driveway. Cops also noted red-brown drops inside the entry way of her apartment.

When Guedes was interviewed at the police station, she told police about their long history of past domestic incidents. Chaves had been threatening her, she told police.

“During the interview, GUEDES also informed me that CHAVES came to GUEDES’ apartment and got into a domestic dispute,” the arraignment report reads. “According to GUEDES, CHAVES pulled a knife, which she described as having a yellow-colored handle, on GUEDES and kicked GUEDES in the thigh. GUEDES was able to take the knife from CHAVES and scraped his forearm with the knife and stabbed CHAVES in the chest.”

A neighbor then saw Chavez leave the apartment, and Chavez reportedly said his ex stabbed him, the neighbor told police. Chavez asked the neighbor to drive him to the hospital, and Guedes also jumped into the vehicle.

“GUEDES kept screaming CHAVES’ name and told (the neighbor) to not turn GUEDES over to the police because GUEDES was going to jail,” the arraignment report reads.

Guedes has a court-appointed defense attorney, who filed a motion for funds for an interpreter.
