Anderson has missed the last two weeks of practice with an illness. It’s unknown how long he will be out.
Anderson started the first two games of the season at right tackle, but hasn’t taken an offensive snap since. He allowed eight total pressures in those games, including four QB hits. Anderson was later ruled a healthy scratch for home games against the Saints and Bills.
By placing Anderson on injured reserve, the Pats have created an open roster spot. The team could sign a member of its practice squad to the active roster to fill Anderson’s place, as it did last week with receiver Jalen Reagor. Second-year backup Andrew Stueber is the only offensive tackle on the practice squad, but the Patriots also have center/guards James Ferentz and Kody Russey.
Without Anderson, the Pats’ offensive tackles depth is down to Trent Brown, Mike Onwenu, Vederian Lowe and Conor McDermott. Rookie guard Sidy Sow has also played right tackle this year.
