Wild get key pieces Matt Boldy and Jared Spurgeon back for practice
Jared Spurgeon and Matt Boldy returned to practice for the Wild, big news for a team that finished a 0-2-1 road trip with a 4-2 loss Sunday in New Jersey.
Boldy, a top-six wing and the team’s second-leading goal-scorer last season with 32 last season, suffered an upper body injury in the team’s second game, Oct. 14 at Toronto, is eligible to play in Wednesday’s rematch with the Devils at Xcel Energy Center.
Spurgeon, a veteran top-pair defenseman and the team’s captain, hasn’t played this season because of an upper body injury suffered when he was checked into the boards in an Oct. 4 preseason game at Chicago. He’s on long-term injured reserve and eligible to return for next Tuesday’s game against the Islanders on Long Island.
Absent from practice was third-line wing Freddy Gaudreau, who didn’t travel with the team last week because of an upper body injury suffered when he was blindsided by Ryan Reaves in Toronto. Gaudreau tried to play through it before being sidelined.
Pat Maroon was practicing in Gaudreau’s place with center Marco Rossi and wing Marcus Foligno.
