Eric Ramsay signs contract to be Minnesota United head coach
Eric Ramsay has signed a contract to become Minnesota United’s next head coach, a source told the Pioneer Press on Thursday.
Ramsay, a current assistant at Manchester United, emerged as the Loons’ top candidate on Monday. He has spent part of this week notifying Manchester United leadership of his decision top join MNUFC.
Ramsay, a Welshman, will need to go through the immigration process and obtain a work visa before joining the Loons. His estimated time of arrival is to be determined.
The Athletic added that Ramsay is scheduled to leave Manchester United after its rivalry match against Manchester City in the English Premier League on March 3.
MNUFC starts the 2024 season under interim head coach Cameron Knowles on Saturday at Austin FC. Knowles will likely be on the sideline for the home opener against MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew at Allianz Field on March 2 as well as more matches.
Ramsay, 32, will become one of the youngest head coaches in MLS history. He will be the Loons’ second permanent head coach, following Adrian Heath, 63, who led the club for its first six-plus years, from 2017-2023.
