Feline Rescue seeking one home for four cats

On weekday mornings, the Pioneer Press features our subscribers’ pets in the Morning Report.

It has become a popular feature in our newsletter; after sharing the news of the day, we wrap up our daily report with cute photos of our readers’ pets (dogs, cats, rabbits, lizards and more).

Sometimes, we also feature pets who need homes — including four cats featured in the Morning Report on Monday, Feb. 19.

Read more below of the four cats who need one home, as well as other pets featured in the Morning Report in February.

“I’m Kate King, executive director of Feline Rescue in St. Paul, and I was wondering if it would be possible to share some of our cats in need with the Pioneer Press?”

Of course!

“Our biggest need right now is a home for the Carnegie sisters, ” she wrote. “They are a group of older cats that came to us bonded. Since they have to be adopted together, we’ve had a rough time getting them into a home.”

Here’s more about the Carnegie Four:

“Molly, Sophie, Spice and Spot are four adorably shy cats who are in search of a forever home. These inseparable feline companions have formed an unbreakable bond and rely on each other for support. They long for the simple things that every cat dreams of: a warm and cozy lap to curl up on, playful toys, nourishing food, and a safe haven. Most importantly, they need loving humans to shower them with affection.”

“Well, we FINALLY got to celebrate Christmas with our girls (we’d had COVID over the holidays, so no getting together then!)” Joyce and Doug write. “Miss Nosey — living up to her name — had to be right in the thick of things. Here, she’s peering into the next bag to be opened to see if it contains anything for her!”

Miss Nosey lives up to her name.

(It didn’t!)

“Tabitha and Tuxedo were adopted from Angel of Hope in October of 2020,” writes Bill.

“Three years later, they remain best buds. Eating, sleeping and supervised walks around the yard are their favorite past time (of course they do need their cuddle time).”

“This is Walter getting ready for his parents’ wedding at the Como Park Conservatory in St. Paul on Dec. 9, ” Karen wrote. “First he steamed, so he looked pretty, and then he put on his hanbok.

“Here is when they came back to sign the papers before going to the reception/dance at Icehouse.

“He had three different outfits and took pictures with Mom (Autumn) and Dad (Hahn) and they came back to sign the wedding certificate so he was in attendance for that. Unfortunately, Como Conservatory doesn’t allow cats for the wedding. He would have been the best ring bearer!

“It was a beautiful, mild day that he will never forget.”

Congrats — and Happy Valentine’s Day! — to Walter, Autumn and Hahn.

“Meet Tina (the old cranky calico) and Barnaby (the gorgeous floofy tabby)!” Meg writes.

“Tina had been a stray found in New York City after Hurricane Sandy. We took her in when her rescuers were growing their human family and didn’t have the space for cats. She is now 17 with an upset tummy and a grumpy demeanor. Her expressive face and agility belie her age and she would very much like to make a cameo in your Zoom call and/or be let outside and/or given a bit of whatever it is you’re eating.

Tina and Barnaby.

“Barnaby, our beautiful-but-dumb trophy cat, was born under a porch in Omaha, and his foster human struggled to find him a home because he was so terrified of humans. A few months after we adopted him, the pandemic started, and my teenage son devoted much of his time (that was supposed to be spent distance learning) to befriending this kitten — thus beginning the greatest love story ever told. Now, Barney cries when my son leaves the house (and when he knows he’s due home soon). I often find them snuggling.

“Barney and Tina don’t really get along — they both kind of want to play but have different styles and haven’t been able to figure it out — but last month they collaborated on a 1:30 a.m. mouseicide, which was very exciting.”

“We thought we’d give you an update on our rescue Ragdoll cat, Izzy Belle,” Mike and Barb write.

Izzy Belle

“She’s coming along pretty well but is still very sensitive to sudden or loud noises. She’s still learning to trust us and is slowly bonding with us and, as you can see, she ‘s getting more comfortable with her surroundings. She’s a very polite and sweet girl, although getting her claws caught in my husband’s beard at 2:15 a.m –. trying to wake him because she’s lonely and wants to play — is not her best behavior. But how can a person get mad at that face?”

Do you feel guilty leaving your dog behind while you go on vacation?

Perhaps you and your dog could vacation together in New Orleans.

Charlie — and Gary — recommend it.

Gary and his dog, Charlie, recommend New Orleans as a dog-friendly vacation destination.

“It’s wonderful how welcome dogs are in the coffee shops, bars and cafes of New Orleans! ” Gary writes. “They always ask if it’s OK to give the dog a treat. One upscale restaurant even asked if Charlie would like to have their ‘puppy meal’ while I ate from their (fabulous!) seafood menu. Best scallops ever! Hat’s off, Gris-Gris!”

“This is my next door neighbor’s cat, Kirby, taking a peek outside via the mailbox in his St. Paul home and ready to surprise our friendly mail carrier!” Lori writes.

Kirby greets the neighor.

“I am currently in Hong Kong visiting friends and enjoying with them in celebrating Chinese New Year,” Steve writes. “One of my friends has pet dogs. She also has a helper who assists in household duties. Part of this help involves taking care of the precious family dogs. Anyway, I had never seen this before but we were all going out to a pet-friendly area and Geny has a special carrier for the dogs. The dogs love it and they get so excited when they know they are going out. I am enclosing a photo of myself, Geny and the two cute dogs — Joey and Jellie — in the carrier.”

This is our first submission from Hong Kong! Thanks, Steve — and Happy New Year!

“Roger is a bit apprehensive about being upstaged over the holidays,” Richard wrote on Dec. 19. “Will people think this cheesy rug is cuter than he is? Sure hope not.”

Roger was worried about being upstaged during the holidays.

Of course not, Roger!

“Still lovin’ the pet pics, I look forward to seeing them every morning,” Nick writes.

Paulie tolerates hats.

“It’s been a year since my li’l buddy Ava past (one of the ‘Three Amigos’ you guys published last year) and thought I’d send a couple pics of Paulie, the little young guy who used to chase her and Stinkers around, in his favorite cowboy hat.

Paulie and Stinkers.

“Stinkers, being the grand ol’ lady she is, told me she’d pass on the hat wearing, but was OK with sending this latest pic with her and her pal, who now keep each other company.”

“This is our beloved Mazel,” begins the email to the Morning Report from Katie, Hilary and Mark. “She is hard at work every day, attending to her sundry tasks around the house including looking out each window at the goings-on, kneading blankets and tossing around her toys. Here she is caught performing one of her most pressing tasks of the late afternoon: curling into a little ball and snoozing.

“Thank you for what you do!”

Today, we remember a royal dog.

“Meet Murphy — a 130-pound Bernese Mountain Dog who loved the winter and played the role of Royal Berner to the Court of Boreas Rex 83,” writes Mary Johnson, a past Lady Boreas of the St. Paul Winter Carnival.

RIP, Murphy

Mary’s husband, Monte Johnson, served as King Boreas of the 2019 St. Paul Winter Carnival.

Our profile of the 83rd king, written by Kathy Berdan, includes a photo of him with Murphy.

“Murphy inspired the Berners in the Park event as part of the Winter Carnival, ” Mary writes. “The fourth annual event is planned for Saturday, Feb. 3 at Rice Park. Sadly, Murphy passed away this past June, but the Berners in the Park will carry on the spirit of winter fun in the park!”

We’re sorry for your loss, King Boreas and Lady Boreas!

Even if it feels more like spring than winter, let’s show up at Rice Park and have fun to remember Murphy.
