Feds bust more than 40 on drug and weapons racketeering charges around Heath Street project
A major drug and weapons bust in Boston has resulted in charges against more than 40 suspected gang members and their associates around the city, according to federal officials.
The charges were announced at a press conference this morning at the federal court in Boston by Acting US Attorney Joshua Levy.
Levy characterized the bust as one making inroads on a network that used rap and music videos to recruit young people at the city’s Heath Street project.
Among the evidence collected by investigators are videos containing lyrics boasting about murder and the feds coming after them.
“Well, the feds have come for you, and we come with our federal, state and local partners,” Levy said, “to bring peace to this housing development.”
In all more than 40 members of the so-called Heath Street gang were indicted on a range of offenses including a racketeering scheme alleging a multi-state drug network, financial and retail theft, and weapons violations.
