King Boreas never had a chance given this winter’s unseasonably warm weather. Not one day of the 2024 Winter Carnival’s 10-day run saw a high temperature that was below freezing.
The signature ice carvings and snow sculptures quickly melted, and St. Paul last week closed all of its outdoor ice rinks, saying they were unlikely to reopen this winter, which, so far, is the warmest on record in the Twin Cities.
