Aaron Syverson threw seven touchdown passes in the first half as St. John’s rolled to a 62-7 victory over St. Scholastica in an MIAC Northwoods division game Saturday in Collegeville, Minn.

Syverson, a senior from Minnetonka, threw two scoring passes to three different receivers — Marselio Mendez from Cretin-Derham Hall, Alex Larson from East Ridge and Nick VanErp from Battle Lake, Minn. — and one to Troy Feddema as the Johnnies led 49-7 at intermission in front of a crowd of 2,981 at a cold and blustery Clemens Stadium.

“We just executed really well,” Syverson said. “We might not always be able to have this same kind of success against every team, but this should be our goal every week.”

St. John’s, coming off a 38-35 loss to Gustavus-Adolphus last week, improved to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the MIAC

Bethel 40, Carleton 0

Coach Steve Johnson picked up his 250th career victory as the Royals blanked the Knights 40-0 in an MIAC game in Northfield, Minn. Johnson’s coaching win total ranks first among active NCAA Division III football coaches and fourth among all active NCAA football coaches. Bethel piled up 489 yards of offense for their fifth consecutive victory. George Bolt passed for 282 yards and two touchdowns, and the Royals ran for 180 yards on 42 carries as a team.

Hamline 38, Macalester 27

The Pipers won the 57th annual battle for the Paint Bucket in their 121st meeting with the crosstown rival Scots in one of college football’s oldest rivalries at Klas Field in St. Paul.
Alejandro Villanueva completed 14 of 21 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown to lead Hamline. Michael Nadeau was 26 of 49 passing for 347 yards and a touchdown for Macalester.

South Dakota State 37, South Dakota 3

The Jackrabbits outgained the Coyotes 473 yards to 183 for the rivalry win at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D. South Dakota State stretched its winning streak to 22 games dating back to early in the 2022 season, improving to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference this year. South Dakota fell to 6-2 and 4-1.
