Lamborghini Gallardo Reborn as HOMMAGE 26 With 560-HP V10, Gated Manual, and Stunning New Design

Some automotive designs age gracefully, while others leave us wondering what their creators might do differently if given another shot. The Lamborghini Gallardo certainly falls into the first category, but nearly three decades after sketching the original supercar, designer Fabrizio Giugiaro has returned to give his creation a remarkable second life. The result is the CAVËN Atelier HOMMAGE 26, a dramatically reimagined Gallardo featuring carbon fiber bodywork, unique aerodynamic elements, and a naturally aspirated V10 paired with a proper gated manual transmission. Revealed at the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas, this exclusive project will be limited to just 25 examples worldwide. It’s the kind of automotive creation that reminds us why the Gallardo remains one of the most recognizable Italian supercars ever produced.

The story behind the HOMMAGE 26 is nearly as interesting as the car itself. Giugiaro originally developed the Gallardo’s design at Italdesign in 1998, several years before Lamborghini introduced the production model in 2003. Now, working through GFG Style, the design studio he established with his legendary father Giorgetto Giugiaro, he’s been given the freedom to revisit the car without many of the production constraints that influenced the original. Nearly every exterior body panel has been redesigned, with only the roof, windshield, side windows, mirrors, and mirror bases remaining from the original Gallardo. The result preserves the familiar wedge-shaped proportions while introducing a noticeably more modern and aggressive appearance.

Perhaps the most interesting styling feature is the addition of pop-down headlights, a clever interpretation of the classic retractable lighting systems that once defined exotic cars. Giugiaro has also incorporated revised front air intakes, more pronounced body sculpting, and active aerodynamic flaps positioned above the taillights. The rear engine cover receives a dramatic louvered design that provides a better view of the V10 underneath, while the new carbon fiber bodywork gives the HOMMAGE 26 a more purposeful appearance. New 20-inch Italtecnica wheels complete the exterior transformation. What we particularly appreciate is that the redesign doesn’t attempt to turn the Gallardo into something unrecognizable. It still looks unmistakably like a Lamborghini from the early 2000s, just one that’s been carefully refined with the benefit of modern design technology.

Thankfully, CAVËN Atelier hasn’t forgotten what makes the original Gallardo so special. Behind the driver sits Lamborghini’s glorious naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V10, now upgraded to produce 540 horsepower in the GT configuration or 560 horsepower in the more aggressive Performance version. The engine has been reworked to rev all the way to 8,500 rpm, which should make for an incredible soundtrack. Better yet, every HOMMAGE 26 comes equipped with a six-speed gated manual transmission, preserving the mechanical engagement that’s become increasingly rare in modern exotic cars. An upgraded braking system and two-mode adjustable suspension provide additional improvements, allowing owners to choose between more comfortable road driving and sharper handling characteristics.

Inside, the HOMMAGE 26 receives a bespoke interior treatment intended to combine modern craftsmanship with the analog character of the original Gallardo. Rather than filling the cabin with oversized digital screens and unnecessary technology, the design emphasizes premium materials, carefully finished controls, and a more traditional driver-focused environment. Each vehicle will be commissioned individually, allowing buyers to personalize colors, materials, and other design details. That approach makes sense considering the HOMMAGE 26 isn’t a conventional production car. It’s essentially a coachbuilt supercar designed for collectors who appreciate the history behind an important automotive design as much as the performance itself.

Of course, revisiting an automotive icon with its original designer doesn’t come cheap. Pricing starts at €900,000, approximately $1 million, before taxes and the cost of the donor vehicle. Buyers will need to provide an early Lamborghini Gallardo or have CAVËN Atelier source one for them. Only 25 examples are planned, making this a particularly exclusive addition to the growing world of high-end restomods. According to reporting from Motor1 and Autocar, the HOMMAGE 26 is just the beginning of CAVËN Atelier’s Designer Series, which aims to reunite celebrated automotive designers with some of their most important creations. Another project is already being planned for 2027, although details remain under wraps.

We have to admit, there’s something refreshing about seeing a company invest this much effort into preserving the character of an older supercar rather than simply chasing increasingly ridiculous horsepower figures. The Gallardo arrived during an era when exotic cars were becoming more technologically advanced but still offered plenty of mechanical personality, especially when equipped with a manual transmission. With Lamborghini having replaced its naturally aspirated V10 with the twin-turbocharged V8 hybrid powertrain in the new Temerario, creations like the HOMMAGE 26 feel even more special. Sure, spending around $1 million to reimagine a Gallardo sounds extravagant, but wealthy collectors aren’t necessarily buying this car for outright speed. They’re paying for the chance to own a modern interpretation of an automotive icon, shaped by the very designer who helped bring it to life in the first place. And honestly, that’s a pretty compelling story for a car that was already beautiful to begin with.
