Jaguar is entering a new chapter with the Type 01, an all-electric grand tourer that puts striking design, serious performance and modern luxury at the heart of its identity. With four doors, more than 1,000PS and a shape unlike anything else on the road, it aims to set a fresh direction for the British marque.

Rather than follow familiar electric car trends, Jaguar has chosen a distinctive path. The Type 01 combines classic design cues with modern technology, creating a car that celebrates the brand’s heritage while looking firmly towards the future.

A Striking Design with a Clear Purpose

The Type 01 introduces Jaguar’s exuberant modernist design philosophy. Its low stance, long bonnet and sleek silhouette give it the proportions of a traditional grand tourer, while its clean surfaces create a more contemporary look.

Designers started with a blank sheet of paper. They then worked closely with engineers to preserve the original vision while refining the car in the wind tunnel. The result is Jaguar’s most aerodynamic model to date, according to the brand.

Every detail serves the wider design. Dramatic proportions give the car a strong road presence, while carefully shaped bodywork helps it move through the air efficiently. Consequently, the Type 01 aims to deliver both visual impact and the performance expected of a modern electric GT.

Jaguar has also developed a new vehicle architecture specifically for this model. Built and developed in the UK, this bespoke platform supports its unusual proportions and ambitious driving targets.

Electric Power Meets Jaguar Performance

The Type 01 is designed to deliver more than straight-line speed. Its tri-motor powertrain produces up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm of torque, making it the most powerful Jaguar road car ever created.

Intelligent Torque Vectoring distributes power where it can make the greatest difference. Meanwhile, a 50:50 weight distribution helps the car balance its substantial performance with the agile handling expected of a Jaguar.

The headline figures are impressive:

0-62mph: 3.2 seconds.

Maximum power: Up to 1,030PS.

Maximum torque: 1,365Nm.

62-112mph: 4.0 seconds.

These figures suggest a car with strong acceleration well beyond motorway speeds. However, Jaguar also promises refined comfort for longer journeys. Drivers can therefore expect two distinct sides to the Type 01: effortless grand touring and rapid, responsive performance.

Long-Distance Touring Without the Wait

A high-performance GT needs more than impressive acceleration. It must also cover long distances with minimal disruption. To support that goal, Jaguar has equipped the Type 01 with a 118kWh battery and an 850-volt electrical architecture.

Jaguar quotes an anticipated EPA range of up to 400 miles, while its projected WLTP range reaches 450 miles. These figures use different testing standards, so they should not be compared directly. Actual range will also depend on driving style, speed, weather and other conditions.

Charging performance is equally ambitious. With a compatible 350kW rapid DC charger, the company says the car can add up to 200 miles of range in as little as 13 minutes.

That combination could make the Type 01 a compelling choice for drivers who want electric performance without sacrificing the freedom to travel. Nevertheless, real-world charging speeds and available infrastructure will influence the experience.

Jaguar has also submitted more than 360 patent applications associated with the car, highlighting the engineering work behind its new approach.

A Cabin Designed Around the Driver

Inside, the Type 01 takes a different approach to luxury. A central spine runs through the cabin, creating separate spaces for occupants. Brass-inspired details extend along both sides, adding warmth and highlighting the interior’s clean, horizontal design.

Technology plays a central role, but Jaguar aims to keep essential controls within easy reach. A 24-inch OLED screen sits ahead of the driver, combining the instrument display with the new infotainment system. An additional seven-inch touchscreen provides quick access to frequently used functions.

Sound also forms part of the experience. The full-width Panoramic Soundbar creates an immersive audio environment, while Sensory Audio seats add another dimension to the system.

Together, these features aim to make every journey feel special, whether the destination is across town or several hundred miles away.

Personal Style and a New Jaguar Identity

The Type 01’s exterior finishes give buyers another way to make the car their own. Jaguar offers gloss colours and satin finishes, each designed to highlight the bodywork’s sculpted surfaces.

The Fender Ingot provides another distinctive detail. It features Jaguar’s famous leaper emblem, carefully crafted as part of the car’s exterior design.

For Jaguar, however, the Type 01 represents more than a new model. It establishes the design and engineering direction for the brand’s next chapter.

Rawdon Glover, Jaguar’s managing director, describes the car as the foundation of the brand’s reinvention. His vision places design, engineering and cultural relevance at the centre of Jaguar’s future.

My view of the Jaguar Type 01

I like a car that has a unique look. This car was massively controversial when first unveiled, in 2024 I believe. I don’t mind the styling, it’s bold. The car will be available to purchase for 2027/2028 at £120,000. It will be interesting to see how well it does. Given it’s styling, I see celebs going for it, but it is a massive car. For me, for half that money I’d go for so many other cars first.
