Croatia May 2026: VW T-Cross and Opel Frontera top record market

The Opel Frontera repeats at #2 in Croatia.

Excellent month for the Croatian new car market, up 10.8% year-on-year in May to 9,451 units. This is believed to be the largest ever monthly volume in the country, eclipsing the previous best of 9,149 in May 2019. The year-to-date volume is up 6.7% to 34,654. Volkswagen (+24.5%) leapfrogs past Skoda (+19.9%) and Opel (+11.3%) to take the lead of the brands charts with 15.6% share vs. 12.1% so far this year. Renault (+6.6%) stays in 4th place with Toyota (+52%) surging ahead to round out the Top 5. BMW (+46.7%) and Hyundai (+21.4%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. As for BYD (+534.1%), it reaches a new ranking record at equal #10 and an all time high volume at 260.

Model-wise, the VW T-Cross (+50.3%) soars to first place, the nameplate’s fourth win in the past 7 months. The Opel Frontera (+18366.7%) celebrates one year in market by repeating at an all time high 2nd spot and is now #3 YTD. Leader year-to-date, the Skoda Octavia (-11.3%) falls to a distant #3 this month, followed by the Renault Clio (-4.6%) and Skoda Kamiq (+29.9%). The Skoda Kodiaq (+145.3%), VW T-Roc (+113%) and Suzuki S-Cross (+44.5%) also shine inside the Top 10. The Renault Symbioz signs its first ever Croatian Top 20 finish at #17.
