Dominant second half leads Upper Cape Tech to victory over South Shore Voke
BOURNE — Upper Cape Tech cruised to a 69-49 victory over South Shore Voke on Monday night in a Mayflower Athletic Conference crossover matchup.
Upper Cape had the lead for most of the game, but the Vikings kept within striking distance in the first half. However, the Rams turned on the gas in the third and put the game away in the fourth.
“South Shore has two good players in (Aiden Antonetti) and (Pat Jackson), looks like (Antonetti) was out with an injury. We did a terrible job of keeping the ball out of (Jackson’s) hands in the first half,” said Rams Coach Billy Macuch, “We were able to adjust, and in the second half, we shut him down … and we were able to do well on the defensive boards in the third.”
Jayden Davis led Upper Cape with 33 points, followed by Tommy Kirk with 11, while the Vikings had Jackson lead with 26.
Jackson started the game with a layup for the Vikings, but the Rams responded with a 10-0 run. South Shore was able to eat at the deficit later in the quarter, as Jackson nailed a pair of three-pointers and finished with 10 out of the Vikings’ 12 points.
In the second quarter, the Rams held onto their lead, but almost let it slip away, when Jackson went to the line to shoot three free throws. He made his first two before missing the final one, and then Jayden Davis went to the line for two with 1.7 seconds left, and nailed both, which gave the Rams a 33-30 lead to end the first half.
UCT then took off, starting with a 9-0 run in the third, and fully took command of the game with a 26-9 advantage in the quarter. Tommy Kirk of the Rams scored the final points of the third with a buzzer-beater jumper, and they led by 20.
Upper Cape shut down the Vikings again in the fourth quarter, allowing just nine, while the Rams offense kept the 20-point in tact with nine of their own, including a three from Ethan Tonello.
