98.5’s ‘Big Jim’ Murray responds to WEEI’s Chris Curtis taking shots at him, Mike Felger
It wouldn’t be Super Bowl week without some eye-opening comments on the sports radio airwaves.
WEEI’s Chris Curtis tried to start a Boston sports radio “take war” on Wednesday, as he accused 98.5 The Sports Hub personalities of stealing his commentary.
Curtis was talking about Tom Brady, saying he had “no dog in the fight” when it came to the Super Bowl between the Patriots and Seahawks. Curtis compared Brady to Larry Bird as former local legends who don’t care about the region.
Curtis claimed that he had the take first, and that 98.5’s Mike Felger “regurgitated” it on Tuesday.
“It is amazing how many times — it used to be ‘Big Jim’ (Murray) because, I don’t know what, I thought I was friends with the guy, now he like blocked me on social media — what I say is regurgitated across the street in the afternoons (Felger and Mazz) on a regular basis,” Curtis said on the air Wednesday morning.
“And yesterday, I made an analogy about Tom Brady,” Curtis added. “Remember who I compared him to in Boston sports history?”
His co-host said Larry Bird.
“Why did I say Larry Bird?” Curtis asked.
“Because you don’t think Bird has been very Boston since he’s left,” his co-host said.
“The exact statement was said yesterday afternoon by their host (Felger),” Curtis said.
98.5 has been crushing WEEI in the radio ratings for several years.
The Herald reached out to Felger and Murray about Curtis’ comments.
Murray responded: “I remember noticing some years ago I was blocked by him for whatever reason, and I’ve always operated likewise – if you block me, I block you. Pretty simple.”
“And as far as ‘stealing his takes’ well, that would require me having to listen to Chris Curtis, which I don’t,” Murray added.

Felger during Tuesday’s show reacted to Brady saying he’s not rooting for the Patriots this weekend.
“Here’s a harsh reality: He just does not give a crap about Boston, or Patriots fans, or the Patriots. He doesn’t,” Felger said. “And we’ve had a few of those. Like I’ve always sort of equated him to Larry Bird.
“Like Larry Bird, how often did he ever come back?” Felger added. “I mean, you know what I mean? Like, there’s a ton of ex-Celtics who just bleed green and are still there, and they show up and they’re present. Paul Pierce is a perfect example. Like, you know. And then there’s other guys who as soon as it’s over, I think Bird was that way… So Brady’s like Bird in this. He does not give a crap about Boston, the Patriots or any of you. He just doesn’t.”
