Boston Police Blotter: Physician impersonator allegedly botched eyelid surgery

A Newton woman faces a slew of charges after she allegedly posed as a doctor and botched a cosmetic surgery.

Dingru Wang, 34, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious injury, kidnapping, and larceny over $1200 by false pretense, as well as unauthorized practice of medicine and improper use of the title of physician and receiving payment for a surgical procedure based on that misrepresentation.

The charges stem from an incident that happened in January 2020.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Wang pretended to have a physician’s license and performed a type of eyelid surgery called blepharoplasty on a 22-year-old victim at an unlicensed clinic at 57A Brighton Ave in Allston.

Wang allegedly injected the victim’s eyelids with a local anesthetic and non-FDA approved dermal fillers, which left permanent scarring, the DA said.

The victim tried to leave after Wang performed the procedure on the first eyelid after experiencing “extreme pain,” the DA’s office said, “but Wang pushed her back onto the table and prevented her from leaving until the surgery was completed.”

The District Attorney’s Office also noted that Wang lied about having current aesthetician, massage therapist, and hair salon licenses in a loan application, then received more than $37,000 in loans while those licenses were suspended.

Wang was indicted by a grand jury last Thursday and will be arraigned at Suffolk Superior Court this Thursday.

“Physicians are licensed for very good reasons, primary among them the assurance that patients are going to be treated by someone trained and certified to deliver safe, effective medical procedures,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden said in a statement. “When misrepresentations are made the results can be devastating.”
