Schonbaum y Benedetti lideran el Latin America Amateur, donde está en juego un lugar en el Masters
LIMA (AP) — El argentino Andy Schonbaum y el venezolano Andrés Martínez Benedetti registraron cada uno rondas de 66 golpes, cuatro bajo par, en condiciones relativamente benignas el jueves para compartir el liderato tras la primera ronda del Latin America Amateur Championship.
El ganador obtiene plazas en el Masters, el Abierto de Estados Unidos y el Abierto Británico de este año.
Schonbaum, quien jugó hace una década en Jacksonville State y está haciendo su décima aparición en el certamen latinoamericano, logró tres birdies en un tramo de cuatro hoyos en los últimos nueve del Lima Golf Club.
Martínez Benedetti, un joven de 16 años que hace su debut en este torneo, emprendió también un empuje tardío. Comenzó en los últimos nueve hoyos y logró tres birdies en los primeros nueve para unirse a Schonbaum en la cima de la tabla de posiciones.
El guatemalteco Gabriel Palacios, el jugador mejor clasificado en el campo en el puesto número 25 del ranking mundial amateur, se apuntó cinco birdies y tres bogeys en su ronda de 68 golpes que lo dejó empatado con el dúo mexicano de Carlos Treviño Derbez y Eduardo Derbez.
