MN lawmaker: ICE detains parent at a bus stop in Crystal
A state lawmaker from New Hope said immigration agents detained a parent of a student from Northport Elementary at a bus stop in Crystal Wednesday.
Rep. Cedrick Frazier, a Democrat, said the individual was detained in front of their child and a bus full of minor children.
“That child is now left with the traumatizing image of their parent being detained while they are bussed to school,” Frazier said in a statement on the incident. “No child should have to sit in a classroom wondering if their parent will be there when they get home. Families are being separated; this is an affront to our values as Minnesotans and to human decency.”
President Donald Trump’s administration has significantly boosted immigration enforcement in Minnesota in recent weeks. Last week, Secretary of Homeland Security Krist Noem announced her agency would be sending 2,000 federal agents to the Twin Cities for enforcement actions.
