Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman selected by Team USA for Olympics

Jeremy Swayman’s bounce-back season continues.

The Bruins goalie was named to Team USA for the Winter Olympic in Milan in February, joining teammate Charlie McAvoy, who was among the group of players who had already been named to the team.

Swayman, who is coming off perhaps his best performance and biggest win of the season in Edmonton on Wednesday that snapped the B’s six-game losing streak, has a 15-10-2 record with a 2.84 goals against average and .904 save percentage

The US will be taking the same three goalies it took the 4 Nations Tournament last season – Swayman, Winnipeg Jet Connor Hellebuyck, who was the starter in that tournament, and Dallas Star Jake Oettinger. Hellebuyck, who missed a month with injury, is having an off year, at least to his standards. He is 9-10-3 with a .907 save percentage and 2.51 GAA. Oettinger is 16-7-3 with a .907 save percentage and 2.57 GAA for the Stars.

We’ll see if Swayman gets a shot at playing time in this tournament. Last spring, he backstopped the US to the gold in the World Championships when he was 7-0 with a 1.69 goals against average and .921 save percentage.

While there was no controversy in the goaltending selections, there will be some debate in some players who got left off, including Dallas’ Jason Robertson, Montreal’s Cole Caufield, both forwards, as well as the Ranger defenseman Adam Fox.

Here is the rest of the roster.
