The Loop Fantasy Football Report Week 17: Finale will be a bit lighter on Vikings
Well, we’ve made it to the final week of the fantasy football season. But it looks like a couple of the Vikings’ standouts are not as fortunate.
Star tight end T.J. Hockenson came out of last Sunday’s loss to Detroit with two torn knee ligaments. He’s done for the season.
Rookie wideout Jordan Addison went down with an ankle injury, and he is considered questionable for the Vikings’ must-win game on Sunday night against Green Bay.
They won’t be the only fantasy notables on the sideline. Here’s another list of the injured folk, along with some waiver prospects who you might have to grab in order to win your playoff matchups:
— Running backs – Who’s questionable? Las Vegas’ Josh Jacobs, the Chiefs’ Isiah Pacheco, Dolphins TD leader Raheem Mostert, New England’s Rhamondre Stevenson, Washington’s Brian Robinson, Chicago’s D’Onta Foreman and the Colts’ Zack Moss.
PLAN B: The Raiders’ Zamir White will be a popular waiver claim after his 145-yard game against the Chiefs. He faces the Colts on Sunday. Other options could be Miami’s Jeff Wilson (vs. Ravens), the Chiefs’ Clyde Edwards-Helaire (vs. Bengals) and ancient Patriot Ezekiel Elliott (vs. Bills).

— Pass catchers – The ranks of the iffy include the Chargers’ Keenan Allen, Indy’s Michael Pittman, Cincy’s Ja’Marr Chase, the Saints’ Chris Olave, Miami’s Jaylen Waddle, Denver’s Courtland Sutton, and the Packers’ Christian Watson and Jayden Reed.
PLAN B: The Bengals’ Tyler Boyd is due to reach the end zone and might against Kansas City. Other options include the Saints’ Rashid Shaheed (vs. Bucs), the Chargers’ Joshua Palmer (vs. Broncos) and New England’s Demario Douglas (vs. Bills).

— Quarterbacks – What’s more concerning, the injury to Brock Purdy or the way the Niners’ MVP candidate played Monday night against Baltimore. Also nursing injuries are two QBs chasing an AFC South title: the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence and the Texans’ C.J. Stroud.
PLAN B: If you’re lucky, Cleveland’s Joe Flacco is still aged and available when he faces the Jets. Other possible QB saviors could be Indy’s Gardner Minshew (vs. Raiders), the Saints’ Derek Carr (vs. Bucs) and even Tennessee’s Ryan Tannehill (vs. Texans).

Sitting stars
Cleveland’s defense is in playoff mode, and Jets RB Breece Hall will not be. …Indy RB Jonathan Taylor will have trouble with the improving Raiders. … Other backs who will find the going tough are Houston’s Devin Singletary against the Titans and the Jaguars’ Travis Etienne against Carolina. … The Patriots’ defense will focus on stopping Bills WR Stefon Diggs. … As the Dolphins’ D will on Baltimore’s Zay Flowers. … Two QBs facing tough tasks this week are the Lions’ Jared Goff against Dallas and the Packers’ Jordan Love vs. the Vikings.

Matchup game
Cleveland WR Amari Cooper had a career day last week in Houston and will post more big numbers against the Jets. … The Rams’ Kyren Wiliams will run through the Giants. … Running through the Giants last week was Philly’s D’Andre Swift, and he’ll keep going against Arizona. … San Fran receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk will both roam free against the Commanders’ poor secondary. … Vikings WR K.J. Osborn will play a bigger role than usual against Green Bay. … Other receivers we expect big games from this week include the Chiefs’ Rashid Rice against Cincinnati and Denver’s Jerry Jeudy vs. the Chargers. … And two hot quarterbacks will remain so: Tampa’s Baker Mayfield and Chicago’s Justin Fields.

Injury watch
We’ve got a few more ailing players worth mentioning. Jacksonville WR Zay Jones and Arizona wideout Marquise Brown are listed as questionable, as are two tight ends: the Bears’ Cole Kmet and the Patriots’ Hunter Henry.

Deepest sleeper
Until recently we were not very familiar with Washington rookie running back Chris Rodriguez. Then the sixth-round pick out of Kentucky had his career-best day, with 65 total yards and his first two touchdowns in the Commanders’ loss to the New York Jets. But it would be a REAL stretch to count on him this week. For one, he injured his foot near game’s end and left the field in a walking boot. Secondly, he’s facing a very upset 49ers defense on Sunday. So it’s probably best to just admire him from afar and keep him out of your lineup.
