Gayle King may be out as host of ‘CBS Mornings’ next year
Longtime “CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King may not be greeting viewers with her signature brilliant smile next year, as the network ponders reassigning her elsewhere, according to a new report.
King is expected to leave the anchor position she’s held for more than a decade, four insiders told Variety. She may take on a different role amid CBS’s complete overhaul of its news division, the sources said.
King’s contract expires in May, but CBS seems interested in keeping her on in some capacity, potentially producing her own programming, they added.
King has helmed “CBS Mornings” since 2012, most recently alongside co-hosts Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson. King would be the latest high-profile person to change roles or leave the network entirely as Paramount prepares to finalize its merger with Skydance.
Paramount on Wednesday began slashing 2,000 employees ahead of next year’s takeover by Larry Ellison, and CBS plans to change up its Saturday morning programming once that’s done, Variety reported.
