Electric Might: AMG’s New EV Super-Saloon to Pack a 1000bhp Punch

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4-Door Coupé was a formidable force in the world of performance saloons, but its successor is set to raise the bar even higher. Mercedes-AMG is developing its first bespoke electric sports car, which is expected to arrive in 2025 with a mind-boggling 1000bhp on tap, making it the firm’s most powerful road car to date.

This electric beast is poised to redefine the performance saloon landscape and is set to be a true game-changer for AMG. It will be the first car to use a bespoke performance-oriented EV architecture known as AMG.EA, which has been designed specifically with sports cars in mind. The layout is expected to be lightweight, solid, and capable of handling huge amounts of power.

Central to the AMG.EA platform are axial-flux electric motors from British firm Yasa, acquired by Mercedes in 2021. These motors are much more powerful and compact than conventional radial-flux motors, which means they can be used to create lighter, more efficient cars.

AMG has yet to confirm the exact power output of its new electric GT 63, but it is expected to exceed even the 751bhp of the AMG EQS 53 4Matic. With the help of Yasa’s motors, the car could potentially reach a staggering 1000bhp and 1000lb ft of torque. Despite its incredible performance, the new electric GT 63 is also expected to be practical. A recent concept from Mercedes, the retro, wedge-shaped One-Eleven, suggests that the car could have a spacious interior and a sizeable rear luggage area.

Prototypes for the electric GT 63 replacement are expected to start hitting the road in the coming months, with a market launch planned for 2025. The car is likely to be based on the rakish, motorsport-themed Vision 2025 concept that AMG revealed last year. The brand is committed to electrification, and its new EV super-saloon is a clear indication that it is not afraid to push the boundaries of performance. With its British-powered drivetrain and stunning design, the new electric GT 63 is set to redefine the performance saloon landscape.

Sounds very cool and exciting. We cannot wait to see the car.
