Patriots get bad news at Thursday’s practice before Saints game

FOXBORO — Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez was limited to begin Thursday’s practice.

Gonzalez, who missed the first three weeks of the season with a hamstring injury, was a full-go in the Patriots’ Week 4 and 5 wins. He was not listed on Wednesday’s injury report. He participated in initial stretching and the start of an individual drill but then left the main field and did not return to practice during the window open to the media.

The Patriots were also running low on edge defenders Thursday in practice.

Defensive end Keion White (elbow) was not present for the start of Thursday’s session, and outside linebacker Anfernee Jennings (ankle) was not participating.

That leaves the Patriots with Harold Landry III, K’Lavon Chaisson and Elijah Ponder available on the edge among players on the 53-man roster at practice. The Patriots also have Bradyn Swinson and Truman Jones on their practice squad.

Safety Jaylinn Hawkins (hamstring) was also not present for the start of his second straight session.

Kyle Dugger and Dell Pettus would be next in line for snaps at safety next to Craig Woodson if Hawkins cannot play Sunday.

The Patriots also have Carlton Davis III, Marcus Jones, Charles Woods and Alex Austin at cornerback on the 53-man roster. Miles Battle, Tyron Herring and Kobee Minor are on the practice squad.
