Mikael Dahlstrom’s leave was announced on the city’s website Wednesday in a brief statement, which does not say why the move was made.

“Deputy Chief Carson Thomas will be leading the department in his absence,” the statement reads. “No further information is available at this time.”

Messages seeking comment Friday were left with Mayor Jeff Weisensel and City Administrator Logan Martin.

Dahlstrom was promoted to chief in June 2019, following 13 years with the department. He’s been a patrol officer, South Metro SWAT team leader, investigations sergeant and commander.
