Man found dead wrapped in blankets, duct tape in abandoned car at South Shore Hospital

A 27-year-old man was found dead wrapped in multiple blankets and duct tape in the back seat of a car parked at South Shore Hospital over the weekend, the Plymouth County DA’s Office said Monday.

At about 2:07 p.m. Saturday, South Shore Hospital staff called Weymouth Police with reports of a “possibly deceased body” in the rear seat of a car parked in front of the emergency room entrance, the DA’s office stated.

The hospital coordinator approached the vehicle, identified as a 2019 black Honda Civic with a Maine license plate, the DA said. In the back seat, he found “an unresponsive male wrapped
in multiple blankets secured with duct tape.”

At about 2:15 p.m., the man in the car was pronounced dead, authorities reported.

The victim was identified as Declan Perry, 27, of Portland, Maine.

After the body was found, neighbors in a condominium complex along the Driftway in Scituate saw local news coverage of the incident, the DA said.

The residents contacted Scituate Police and reported an incident they witnessed earlier Saturday. The neighbors said they saw a man “loading a large, heavy blanket into the black Honda Civic at their neighbor’s residence.”

Police obtained a search warrant for the residence, the DA’s office said, and seized “several items of evidence.” The police identified a person of interest in the investigation, who they said was known to the victim.

An investigation into the incident is active and ongoing by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County DA’s Office and Scituate Police. The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has yet to determine the manner and cause of death.
