Braintree bounces back, tops Texas team at Little League World Series

Braintree displayed plenty of resilience and strong defense in bouncing back nicely at the Little League World Series.

On Saturday, Braintree stayed alive in the double-elimination tournament in Williamsport, Pa., with a solid 7-3 win over Richmond, Texas.

The Texas team jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Braintree wasn’t bothered, scoring three runs to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Defense played a major role in the game, as Texas made four errors and Braintree only committed one miscue in the field. Although Texas outhit the New England champions, 9-7, Braintree produced enough offense to keep its championship dream alive.

Braintree opened the tournament Thursday with a tough 13-0 loss to the Southeast champs from South Carolina. Joe Giulietti launched a grand slam to give his team an 8-0 lead and the game was stopped after four innings by the mercy rule.

Braintree’s lone hit was a single off the bat of Colman Gouthro, as Giulietti was dominant on the mound, tossing 3.1 no-hit innings.

Fairfield, Conn., the Metro champs, is off to a 2-0 start.
