Canada July 2025: Toyota (+29.5%), Hyundai (+22.1%) highlight solid market (+6.9%)

Hyundai Tucson sales are up 123.4% YoY in Canada in July.

Local consultancy DesRosiers Automotive show a Canadian new light vehicle market up 6.9% year-on-year in July to 172,000 units. This is the best July result since pre-pandemic July 2019 (174,000). “Effects of the counter-tariffs have still to be yet felt as OEMs were selling (at least in part) from pre-tariff inventory.” says DesRosiers. The SAAR comes in at 1.89 million vs. 1.77 million in July 2024 and 1.81 million last month. Year-to-date volumes are up 7.1% to 1,130,000.

Among OEMs still reporting monthly, Toyota Motor fares best at +28.6%, followed by Hyundai-Kia at +19.6% and Honda Canada at just +2.3%. Brand-wise, Toyota (+29.5%), Hyundai (+22.1%) and Lexus (+22%) lead the way, with Mazda (+14.5%), Kia (+13.7%) and Volvo (+8.9%) also beating the market. At much lower volumes, Genesis (+50.9%) surges ahead. Underperforming are Subaru (+0.7%), Acura (+0.4%) and Honda (+2.4%).

Over in the models charts, the Toyota RAV4 is up by a solid 11.3% but the performer of the month is the Hyundai Tucson up spectacularly at +123.4%, upsetting the Honda CR-V (-18.7%) in complete freefall. The Kia Sportage (+78.5%), Subaru Crosstrek (+29.2%) and Hyundai Kona (+26.5%) also post fantastic gains. Further down, notice the Toyota 4Runner (+240.5%), Mazda3 (+126.7%)and Toyota Tacoma (+115.8%) among the most dynamic.
