Fringe review: ‘Clown Funeral’ is stacked with goofball antics and audience engagement
Must See
Levi Weinhagen, Chris Rodriguez, Mark Benzel and Jen Scott — all established performers in the Twin Cities comedy scene — portray four inept clowns trying to honor their dearly departed in “Clown Funeral.” Scripted humor and quippy improv add layers to Bongo’s funeral, during which audience members are invited to don clown noses and sing along with inappropriate memorial songs like “Sweet Caroline.”
There are some touching moments, dirty limericks and a good balance of characters presented by veterans of the scene. “Clown Funeral” is borderline kid-friendly, but this oddball memorial service will resonate better with adult fans of smart writing and goofball antics.
Presented by Octoberdandy Productions at Theatre in the Round; 2:30 p.m. Aug. 3, 5:30 p.m. Aug. 4, 7 p.m. Aug. 6, 1 p.m. Aug. 9
