Patriots young defender excited to play with ‘violence’ in new defense
FOXBORO — The switch from the traditional Patriots defense to Mike Vrabel and Terrell Williams’ new system is a welcome change for defensive end Keion White.
The new defense is expected to be more aggressive and attacking. The defensive line will be allowed to get up field more rather than sitting back, reading and reacting.
“Definitely leading with violence is always my type of style,” White, a 2023 second-round pick, said Friday. “So, whenever I can do that and not read as much, that’s definitely beneficial for me.”

White, who led the Patriots with five sacks last season, will be playing under his third head coach in three years, going from Bill Belichick to Jerod Mayo to Vrabel. White said last month that he felt like he was training himself last season and, “Now I feel like I have a coach.”
White was asked about Vrabel on Friday.
“My biggest working relationship is whether we’re winning or losing, so that’s big for me,” White said. “And then you just go from there. So, is he a good coach, and how can he make me better? And that’s the biggest relationship I have. Everything else will take care of itself.”
White was asked a follow-up on what he thinks of Vrabel.
“I think he’s a pretty good coach.”
Why?
“Because he helps me get better.”
