Gophers football: New defensive tackle leaves after one week

A new defensive tackle for the Gophers stuck around less than a week.

Florida International transfer Jordan Guerad gave a verbal commitment to Minnesota last Sunday, but backed off it Saturday.

“I’d like to thank Minnesota for giving me the opportunity to be a part of their program,” Guerad wrote in X. “After talking with my family we have decided to move in a different direction and de-commit.”

Guerad then quickly pledged to Louisville, which is led by former Purdue coach Jeff Brohm.

With the exit Guerad, a Conference USA first-team selection, Minnesota will go back to looking for a new nose tackle to help replace current senior Kyler Baugh. The transfer portal closes Jan. 3.

Since the transfer portal opened Dec. 4, Minnesota has had seven scholarship players exit, with four players planning to come in.
