Uruguay May 2025: Fiat stays on top, BYD and Chery soar

BYD sales are up 168.7% year-year in May.

New car sales in Uruguay lift by a robust 9.8% year-on-year in May to 5,265 units. This means the year-to-date tally is now up 9.9% to 25,824. Fiat (-7%) remains in first place in the brands ranking despite enduring the only YoY loss in the Top 5. Renault (+27.9%) reclaims the 2nd spot off BYD (+168.7%) still up by staggering rates. Volkswagen (+28.8%) and Hyundai (+12%) also both beat the market below whereas Chevrolet (-45.9%) is in complete freefall, as are Citroen (-20.3%) and Peugeot (-38%). In contrast Chery (+120.8%) and Suzuki (+74.1%) both post spectacular YoY gains. All in all, Chinese brands account for 27.8% of the Uruguayan market this month.
