Connecticut woman shot dead in car in Brockton

A woman was shot dead in a vehicle parked on a residential street in Brockton early Friday morning and police suspect a male acquaintance for her killing.

Brockton Police got a 911 call a little after 12:20 a.m. reporting a shooting outside a condo building on Nason Street at its intersection with Linnea Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found Stephanie Beatty, 22, of Norwich, Conn., suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the Plymouth District Attorney’s office. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brockton Police reached out to Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the DA’s office, who then conducted an investigation. The detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gelson Fernandes, 29, of Brockton, who authorities describe as “previously acquainted” with Beatty, charging him with her homicide.

The investigation is ongoing.
