A Hyannis man only recently let out of prison has been found dangerous and is being held without bail on charges that he shot his wife on Thanksgiving day.

Mark Griswold, 53, of Hyannis, was found dangerous following a hearing in Barnstable District Court Friday and will be held on charges of firearm-armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and assault and battery on a family or household member.

He’s next due in court on Jan. 4 for a probable cause hearing, according to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office.

Griswold called Barnstable Police a little after 5:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day to report that an assailant had shot at him and his wife, and that his wife had been shot, according to a copy of the police report shared by local Cape Cod news outlet the Hyannis News.

The recent jailbird’s story didn’t seem to amount to much to the police, nor to his wife, who immediately obtained a protection order from him while being treated for gunshot wounds to her hand and chest in a local hospital.

She wrote in her affidavit, according to the police report, that Griswold’s past history — he had only recently been released from prison after a 5-year stint on firearms charges, according to the DA’s office — as well as her knowledge that he may have obtained a gun had her fearing him, and that she believed he could have been the shooter.
