Boys confess to Spring Lake Township Hall vandalism
A 16-year-old Prior Lake boy has confessed to driving a group of friends to Spring Lake Township Hall and vandalizing light fixtures there on July 28.
Detective Robert Ryan of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office said this week that the boy’s mother recognized her son after a story and still-frame shot from a surveillance camera appeared in the paper and online.
The mother contacted the sheriff’s office, and the boy confessed to being one of two people who did the damage. A 17-year-old Prior Lake boy also confessed to his part in the vandalism. Five other people were at the township hall with the boys but did not contribute to the vandalism, Ryan said.
Security cameras show a white SUV entering the town hall parking lot and six people exiting the vehicle. Video and still-frame images show the group entering the pavilion area and loitering around the building and a playground area. About $200 worth of damage to light fixtures was reported after the group left.
The case will be forwarded to the Scott County Attorney’s Office for consideration of possible charges, including misdemeanor criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct, Ryan said.
