Fire destroys home near shores of Prior Lake
PRIOR LAKE – Fire destroyed a home just off the shores of Lower Prior Lake Wednesday evening.
When firefighters arrived at 5828 150th St. shortly after 7:30 p.m., a two-stall garage and the apartment above it were fully engulfed in flames, said Fire Chief Doug Hartman.
No one was in the garage or the apartment, but a woman who lives at the home just to the east, which is part of the same property, was helped to safety by two people who were on the lake and saw the fire. Hartman said the woman and her husband rent the above-garage apartment to their son.
Two Prior Lake firefighters were taken to the hospital to be treated for heat exhaustion or dehydration, and one firefighter was injured during cleanup and had to receive stitches, Hartman said. Those firefighters were treated and released.
The cause is unknown at this time. Hartman said he considers the home a “total loss.” Firefighters from Savage, Shakopee and Mdewakanton Emergency Services were called for assistance.
