Barker receives Eagle Scout Scholarship
Brandon Barker of Eden Prairie was awarded a $1,000 Eagle Scout Scholarship at the Northern Star Council’s recognition dinner March 31 at Base Camp near Fort Snelling. This year the council awarded 32 $1,000 scholarships to candidates demonstrating outstanding troop leadership, scholastic achievement and strong citizenship to the community. The council’s scholarship program has awarded more than $390,000 in scholarships since its inception in 1990.
Barker is a member of Troop 479 chartered to the AM Rotary Club in the Mustang District. Throughout his Scouting career, his most fond memory is traveling to the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M. For his Eagle Scout service project, he redesigned and ran a book sale for the Friends of Eden Prairie Library.
Brandon is graduating from Eden Prairie High School where he was involved in marching band, robotics team, math team and the National Honor Society. He also received the “game time” award for motivating and inspiring the marching band. Following graduation Brandon is looking forward to attending college in the fall.
The Eagle Scout award is the highest rank in Scouting. Only four percent of all Boy Scouts earn the Eagle Scout rank. This year marks the 100th anniversary since the first Eagle Scout award was given in 1912.
