Alarm failure caused smoke damage at Friendship Church
Drivers on Fairlawn Avenue on Thursday morning might have thought they saw a fire at Friendship Church, 17741 Fairlawn Ave. in Prior Lake, but Fire Chief Doug Hartman said the issue was limited to a “fried” smoke alarm.
The chief said lightning or “an energy field issue” caused the smoke alarm system to burn out just before 11 a.m., causing “enough smoke that we had to tear into about a 10-foot area of the ceiling.” No fire was found, and the amount of damage has not yet been determined because the church has to assess the damage to the smoke alarm system.
“It’s likely a few thousand dollars,” Hartman said of the damage.
