Chanhassen: Short-handed Storm fall to Jefferson 7-0
With six starters sitting out a key dual against Bloomington Jefferson, Chanhassen dropped a 7-0 decision on the road in a Metro West Conference match April 29.
The Storm had a four-match winning streak end in the loss, falling to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.
With all four players out in the singles side, senior Jack Pinamonti moved from exhibition to the first position, dropping the match in 12 games.
Freshmen Ben Gustafson (6-3, 6-1) and Kyle Remington (6-2, 6-2) lost at second and fourth singles, with Nathan Choiniere falling in 12 games as well.
Jackson Dudak and Ben Thorud won the first set at second doubles before dropping a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 decision.
Ben Kloke and Kai Braaten at first doubles (6-3, 6-4) and Adam Guldberg and Ryan Schultenover (6-2, 6-1) also played for the Storm.
Jim Mason, coach for Chanhassen, said the full roster should be available for a 9 a.m. match at Owatonna on Saturday.
BASEBALL: Chanhassen 5, Richfield 4
Trailing 4-1 into the sixth inning, Chanhassen scored four times late, winning its third one-run contest this season in a 5-4 victory at Richfield on April 29.
The Storm have won seven games in a row and are 5-0 in the Metro West Conference.
Chanhassen scored three times in the seventh inning. A hit by pitch and Drake Weisman pinch-hit single rolled over the line-up, the bases loading on a one-out walk to TJ Truso.
An error at third base off the bat of Jared Davidson allowed the first run to score before the game was tied at four on a TJ Hokanson base on balls, forcing in a run. Hunter Even’s fielder’s choice put Chanhassen ahead 5-4.
Even started the rally one inning earlier with an RBI fielder’s choice to draw the Storm within 4-2.
Davidson reached base all four times, doubling and scoring on a Jack Pries sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
Nick Kindschuh pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the win with Tommy Thompson fanning two of three batters faced for the save.
Even struck out seven batters in allowing one earned run on seven hits over five innings in a no-decision.
Chanhassen is at Athletic Park in facing Chaska at 7 p.m. Monday.
SOFTBALL: Chanhassen 20, Richfield 0 (5)
Jessica Bren knocked in five runs with two doubles and a home run in Chanhassen’s 20-0 win at Richfield on April 29.
The Storm scored in all five innings, plating eight runs in the third at-bat for a 14-0 lead. Chanhassen outhit the Spartans 17-2.
Hayley Haakenstad went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs with Marybeth Olson also scoring four runs on two singles and two walks.
Other offensive leaders were Emily Saurer (2-for-4, RBI) and Julia Bock (2-for-3, 2 runs, 3RBI).
MacKenzie Pinkerton pitched three innings, giving up two hits with five strikeouts in the win. Taylor Manno struck out five of six batters faced over two innings.
Chanhassen, now 5-1 in the Metro West Conference and 8-2 overall, completes the league schedule at 4:30 p.m. at Chaska on Monday.
GIRLS LACROSSE: Chanhassen 13, Orono 2
Leading 8-2 at halftime, Chanhassen posted a shutout over the final 25 minutes, improving to 4-1 on the season in a 13-2 victory on April 29.
The Storm are ranked No. 10 in the state.
Lexie Walstad netted a game-high four goals with Rowan Hodgins adding a hat trick for Chanhassen.
Kelly Walstad also scored two goals with an assist with Dylan Melby, Emma Silbernagel, Shea Kerry, and Mollie Wise each finishing with a tally.
Silbernagel won seven draw controls with goaltender Emilee Anderson making seven saves.
Chanhassen is at St. Michael-Albertville on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
