Softball team eliminated from playoffs
The Tiger softball team dropped a pair of Section 2AAA games Tuesday, eliminating them from the playoffs and ending their season.
Hutchinson lost 5-0 to Class AAA No. 2 ranked Chaska in game one, and 3-2 in 13 innings to Waconia in the elimination game.
Waconia scored the game-winning run on a double over the head of left fielder Allison Gunderson, scoring a runner from second base.
Hutchinson scored a run in the first and seventh innings, which forced extra innings. Kellie Powers was charged with loss despite recording double-digit strikeouts.
In the first game with the Hawks, the game was scoreless into the sixth inning when Chaska scored five runs after a pop fly was dropped at first base. The pop fly would’ve been the third out.
Lynn Wegner did a great job mixing pitches and keeping the Hawk batters off base.
Brynne Derdal earned the win in relief. She entered the game with the state lead in strikeouts.
In other regional action:
Dassel-Cokato upset New Ulm, 4-1, before dropping a 4-2 decision to Mankato East. The Chargers will face Waconia Thursday. The Wildcats beat D-C twice this season.
