St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office seized 38 dogs from an Ash River Trail residence Wednesday after conducting a welfare check on the owner of the home.

According to the report, officials found a note at the residence indicating that the owner and the animals were starving.

Deputies, along with a veterinarian and staff from the Range Regional Animal Rescue in Hibbing, arrived at the scene where they found the dogs, all of which were dehydrated, anemic, underweight and suffering from malnutrition. No food for the dogs was found in the residence.

The dogs were brought to the Range Regional Animal Rescue in Hibbing and officials continue to investigate the matter.
